Ok this review will be shorter then the Tales of Symphonia review. Since this game was broken up into three majors times. Since I probably forgot a lot about this game. Well anyways the game is ok, for a Tales of series. Considering this game is a PSP, you know it can't get be really too far into detail. Overall this game was fun, but was more like a World of Warcraft, yes I have played that game twice and that is the best I can judge it. Nothing can really said of that. It is hard to rate this game, because of it being like WoW.
Story: 7 out of 10.
Overall, a very similar story, expect, in this case it was more like every world out there. Still sort of interesting, but this game sort of really lacked plot for the story, since mostly it was doing the side story stuff that over powered the game. The missions for the story was like 1/100th of the missions you could do. So overall sort of disappointing for a story wise. No real character development, just a story of save of the world.
Controls: 9.9 out of 10.
The controls were very much like Tales of the Abyss, with the expect of the R2 and L2 keys. You could free move around, with the joy stick. Very good controls, for an RPG like this. Not a lot of faults here, with maybe just one. Is it is easy to turn menu controls around at times. I kept deleting stuff as I tried to exit. That is the only major fault of the controls of the game. Using the moves is very easy again as long as you know that your good. It may be hard at first, but Tales of the Abyss controls really set me up.
Characters: 8.2 out of 10.
If you played the Tales of series, you might have wanted other characters from the game besides the one they used. Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Legendia, Tales of Symphonia, Tales of Rebirth, Tales of Eternia, Tales of Destiny 1 & 2, and Tales of Phantasia. Since I played the first three games in that list, I would have selected some different characters for the game. Most where good choices, but I don't like that they didn't add two of my favourite characters in the game. But since most where plot related I guess it is ok. You can make your own character, but the personality isn't there. So overall it was good cast, but could be better.
Voicing/Music: 7.8 out of 10.
Some of the characters have different voices, but I guess that is ok. As for your character, not much of choice. There wasn't enough choices for it. But they where tolerable. Nothing else can be really said. The music was ok, even thought there wasn't much music. But if I just say it was PSP and rate from a PSP stand point it would be more or 9. Not much background music, if I remember correctly. If there was, it was ok.
Magic System: 10 out of 10.
Pretty much perfect, once you learn it. Use each thing 50 times, you master it. Once you master all of them, you can use your overlimit mode and unlease your strongest attack. It is some what of a pain to level up to like 71 before you can use it. And moves carry over if you switch classes, so you don't have to relearn them. And your magic stops if you get hit, which is a good thing. Over all a very good magic system. Takes a bit to master stuff, and it isn't heavy use on your magic points. Nothing could be really fixed.
Animation Style: 9 out of 10.
Very good for a PSP game, probably one of the betters ones that is from the Japan animation style. Even thought the characters don't move fluidity at all times, it is very smooth. Everyone does look a little off and a little bit more blurry if they are from the PS2 games, but better then they did in the orignal game. So it is give or take there. The animation style for the moves is very good and the monsters taken from the Abyss game look very good on this game. Even the cut scenes are good, even if they are small in numbers.
Overall: 8.7 out of 10.
This game can get very repetative very easy. Since most missions are very simliar in the three mission areas. Pretty much they is, story missions, destory monsters, fight the Tales characters (groups including), collections, or doing people's leg work for there life. And it is the same people over and over requestion jobs. The character creation is ok, nothing really super special. But hey you can make your own character, with the limation of what the game allows you. I wish that was a little more in it, but hey it is PSP and doesn't have the space as like a PS2 game. The last boss is very annoying to fight, if you don't know what to do, even if your not the healer. Your levels play a super important in this game, then most games I have played. If you are a little under its level you got to be ready to have a tough job. Also it is harder to get the Tales character to join your party, then just random characters the game makes. So you will probably have to stick with annoying characters for a long time.
The game overall is good, but would I say get it. If you really like the Tales of series, then yes get it. If your not into I'd say no. Even your in RPGs, I'd play Tales of the Abyss or Tales of Symphonia, those games where much better, since there is no missions in it. The missions sort of ruin this game, but still a good game. If you can live with the repetativeness of the game, then get it. That is all I have to say on that.
